Fire Breaks Out on Vessel Off Oman Coast, All Indian Crew Are Safe

(MENAFN) A fire broke out aboard a vessel near the coast of Oman on Monday, prompting concerns over the safety of those on board. Indian officials later confirmed that all 24 Indian nationals serving as crew members escaped the incident without harm.

According to reports, the fire erupted at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time aboard the MT Marivex. An official from India’s shipping authorities stated, "Per available information, all Indian seafarers are presently safe."

Earlier, a seafarers' organization in India reported that the crew had issued urgent requests for assistance following the emergency.

The incident occurred in waters near Oman, a country located beside the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, an area currently affected by a blockade and heightened regional tensions linked to the conflict between Iran and Israel.

As stated by reports citing maritime sources, the blaze may have been triggered by a suspected drone or missile strike. The reports indicated that an explosion struck the vessel’s engine room, causing significant damage.

The MT Marivex is an oil and chemical tanker operating under the flag of Palau.
