U.S. Moves to Impose Naval Blockade on Iran Ports
The move, announced on social media platform X, follows a presidential proclamation directing military enforcement across Iranian waters.
"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on April 13 at 10 a.m. ET, in accordance with the President's proclamation," the command stated.
The blockade spans both the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, applying equally to vessels of every nationality. CENTCOM made clear that no country's ships would be exempt from enforcement.
"The blockade will be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas," it said.
Despite the sweeping scope, CENTCOM drew a firm line at unrestricted international shipping lanes, affirming that non-Iranian maritime commerce would not be disrupted.
"CENTCOM forces will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports," it noted.
As a precautionary measure, the US military said it would alert commercial vessels in advance, urging all ships operating in the Gulf of Oman and Strait of Hormuz to monitor maritime broadcast channels and reach out to US naval forces if necessary.
