Hegseth Calls on Iran to Accept Trump-Proposed Deal
"The president has been clear to Iran: he wants a negotiated settlement. I think it would be a wise choice for them to take him up on that deal," Hegseth declared Monday during an "Arsenal of Freedom" tour appearance in Bath, Maine.
The defense chief underscored that America's diplomatic overtures are reinforced by overwhelming military superiority demonstrated during last year's conflict.
"The world saw America's capabilities. Peace through strength, deterrence in action. We were out of Iran before Iran even knew we were there. No other country can do that," Hegseth stated, referencing US strikes on Iranian territory during the 12-day June war.
Hegseth's comments arrive as Tehran and Washington gear up for forthcoming negotiation sessions, which relaunched Friday in Oman following an eight-month hiatus.
Indirect diplomatic channels between the two nations froze after June's military confrontation, when American forces struck three critical Iranian nuclear facilities.
